Gay
Brighton-Top Ten Tips for Your Visit...

Brighton
- or The
City of Brighton and Hove to give it the official title -
has one of the largest gay/lesbian
populations as a percentage of the overall population in Europe. It is
Britain's youngest city and is proud of it's liberal diversity.
Therefore it is no surprise that Brighton
offers gay and lesbian visitors a fantastic choice to enjoy a great
holiday.
Here are the top 10 tips to have a great time:
1. Meet the locals. Brightonians are, on the whole, a friendly bunch
and will answer any questions you might have, from losing your way and
not knowing which direction to go in, to the best places to eat. There
is a strong sense of community in Brighton.
2. Take some cash.
Brighton may be an hour from London,
but the prices are fairly similar.
3. Go in the summer. Brighton
is the best on a sunny summer day or evening and is frankly vile on a
windy, rain swept, cold winters day or evening.
4. Head towards
Kemptown.
This is the 'gay
village' and is full of gay bars, clubs, shops and people.
5. Watch out for the
hills. Brighton is very hilly and is built in a valley.
6. Check out the
Royal
Pavilion. This is a high camp royal palace and a must see.
It's also a very popular venue for same-sex marriages in the UK.
7. Watch out for
bicycles.
Although not on the same level as cities such as Amsterdam, cycling is
very popular in Brighton (especially in the summer). Keep your eyes
open
when crossing the street.
8. Enjoy the beach.
The well developed seafront is great in the summer. Tastefully designed
and well organized.
9. Go to Brighton Pride
- one of the biggest in the world and still free. Brighton Pride is a
'must do' at least once in your life.
10. Have fun!
Brighton
is a party town
and makes no bones about it. The city has liberalized drinking laws
that means many bars and clubs are open (basically) all hours.
